[Name]: Hikaru Hitachiin
[Canon]: Ouran High School Host Club (manga)
[Age]: 16
[Gender]: Male
[Canon Point]: Post chapter 56

[History]: http://ouran.wikia.com/wiki/Hikaru_Hitachiin

Stuff of note that the Wikia article doesn't include;
- The point in the manga Hikaru is taken from is just after major development with Kaoru, and the realization of each of their feelings from Haruhi. Kaoru determined that the only way for Hikaru to be happy was to sever the bond between them; confused and hurt, Hikaru thought that Kaoru just simply hated him for not realizing that he had feelings for Haruhi. Long, painful story short, Kaoru (kind of) explained what he was doing, Hikaru said "hell no" (to put a four-page speech short), and they have decided that while they won't separate completely, they'll encourage each-other to pursue individual things and help each-other grow as separate people.
- At this point as well, Hikaru has just dyed his hair a "dark ash" colour to differentiate himself from Kaoru.

[Personality]: (Okay so years ago I wrote a personality section for this guy that I flat-out have not been able to top. It's still viewable in its original form here. I've expanded ontop of it, but I have not been happy with anything I've written since that bloody one.)

If you ask anyone who knows him what he's like, you'll get told quite a few things. "He's so sweet and protective~ ♥" "Kyaa~!" "The way he looks at Kaoru-kun... you can just see his devotion!" "He's so moe~!"

If you ask anyone who knows him outside of the Host Club, you'll get told some things that have a fair bit more substance. "Huh? Hikaru? Which twin's that?" "He used to be really mean, but now, it's like a cool stream has soothed his fiery rage..." "Tricky. Don't trust him. In fact, don't stay anywhere near him or his twin. Just run, as far away as you can, and pray you didn't catch their interest."

Ask the Host Club, and you'll get statements that hold a lot more truth.
"Hika-chan~? He and Kao-chan are really, really, really close. They used to be really closed off, and didn't play with anyone else. It's different now, though. They're a lot more friendly, and they even shared their cake with me last week!"
"That demon! Just the other day he called me a PERVERT! Just because I wanted to see Haruhi in that cute dress...! He and that brother of his, they're both devils!"
"Hikaru... Well, I guess he's pretty mean - more so than Kaoru, at any rate - but he does have good intentions, sometimes. I think it's more of a case where he lacks common sense, and doesn't know how to treat other people. Though most of the time, I'm pretty sure he intends to insult people as much as he can..."
"He and Kaoru share a unique bond. Don't try to separate them."
"The Hitachiin family are known for their stubborn streak, and Hikaru demonstrates this at every opportuinity. Along with his ability to plan elaborate pranks... It's probably best to keep him on a tight leash."

Ask his parents, and you'll get...
"Hikaru's impatient and angers easily, but Kaoru can usually take care of that."
"The twins have always been tricksters, but it seems to get worse with each year."

Ask his brother?
"All of the information you want is in the 'Hitachiin Twins' Background Story: Intertwined Fates!' book, available to buy from the Club website. ♥ While you're there, you might also want to look at the 'Hitachiin Perfect Notebook', or 'Host Club: the Movie'."

Ask him?
"Don't you have anyone else to stalk? Go harass Nekozawa, or something."

And what have we learnt from all of this, other than that Elle sucks at stating things in a clear and concise manner?

-Hikaru is stubborn.
-Hikaru is tricky/mean/manipulative.
-Hikaru cares about Kaoru. A lot.
-Hikaru doesn't trust others easily.
-To quote Kaoru; "He doesn't know how to control his feelings, and ends up flinging them at the other person, just like a little kid."
-Once someone has gotten his attention, they ain't gettin' rid of it. He will poke, pod, stalk, harass, and do anything else that comes to mind, just for his own amusement.
-He and his brother are very clever, and enjoy pranking people. However, Hikaru's usually the one to come up with the pranks - Kaoru's the one who makes sure they go off without a hitch.
-He's about as subtle as a ton of bricks to the head.
-He's not shy about expressing himself, but the way he goes about it is generally considered to be... Well. He just doesn't think about the effects his words will have on people.

Due to his unique upbringing, Hikaru has spent the majority of his life with Kaoru as his only friend; he is extremely close to his twin, to the point where nothing and no-one else matters. He is slowly expanding his world to include other people, but at the moment, the members of the Host Club (Hani, Mori, Tamaki, Kyouya and Haruhi) are the only ones he would truly do anything for.

Hikaru is a very loyal person, and will do everything in his power to look after the people he cares about. To those he doesn't care about, he really has no empathy.

Despite his self-centered and oblivious personality, Hikaru does actually know a lot about the world, and the people in it. It's just he usually doesn't care enough to voice his opinions, or he doesn't think he has to. He sees nothing wrong with using his knowledge of people to his own advantage, and honestly doesn't even care if people get upset with him about it.

That's all I can think of at the moment; if you'd like me to elaborate on anything, just let me know!

[Abilities / Strengths & Weaknesses]:

Unless the ability to annoy anyone he comes into contact with counts as a power, Hikaru is completely without any special abilities.

Academically, his strengths lie in numbers and logic. While he's terribly oblivious when it comes to himself (he requires a quiet meditation room, multiple diagrams, and a couple of well-behaved animals to realize he and his brother have a crush on someone), he views the world in a very clear-cut way. This makes it very easy for him to manipulate others to his and Kaoru's purposes, and he doesn't actually see anything wrong with doing that.

Physically, he's not unfit, but he has no remarkable records or achievements. He's very high-energy, which means he's generally a very active person - it's very rare to see him or Kaoru sitting still for very long.

Due to their parents' businesses, both of the twins are skilled in fashion, design, flower arranging, and technology-general. They have at multiple points demonstrated a strong capability in all of these things, and Hikaru even built a laptop to give Haruhi for her birthday.

One of his greatest weakness is his obliviousness, and lack of care for others. His dependence on Kaoru is also a major weak point; whenever something happens to cause distress to his twin, Hikaru cannot help but be affected by it as well. Since his obliviousness and lack of empathy sometimes end in trouble, and Kaoru suffers from it, Hikaru ends up feeling a few hundred times worse about it than he normally would.

He is a very emotional person, and is largely ruled by whatever he's feeling most at the time. Softer emotions - fear, sorrow, loneliness - he won't express around others, but depending on how close you are to him, it becomes easier to tell what he's feeling. (Hint: If Kaoru's not around, he's probably very sad.) For those that know him, he wears his heart on his sleeve; for those who don't, he's permanently excited. It doesn't help that he is also fuelled by other people's emotions - if he gets excited, and someone else (say, Tamaki) gets excited, he'll get more excited, that other person will get more excited, so Hikaru will get even more excited--and so-on. It's only natural for him to feed off of other people's emotions, considering how closely he and Kaoru operate.

He also has a very terrible habit of sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, solely to sate his curiousity and/or boredom. That having been said, he gets bored very quickly, and will abandon things at the drop of a hat if they stop being interesting to him.

His biggest weakness is definitely Kaoru. As soon as anything happens to his brother, Hikaru loses all rationality and composure. Despite Kaoru pushing for them to grow apart, Hikaru has refused - possibly the first thing he has never denied his twin. Until Kaoru began to push for it, Hikaru had never considered a future without his brother by his side; in his view, there was no need for it. "We're twins, Kaoru. Isn't it a wonderful gift? Instead of going through life alone, we have each-other for support." He has accepted Kaoru's motive for them to grow independently of each-other, but for them to cut their bond is entirely unacceptable.

He is also very genre-savvy.

At this very point in time, he is still a bit emotionally raw and fragile. The point I am taking him from is the same day he dyed his hair to help people differentiate between he and Kaoru, so essentially he's just had a painful pow-wow with his twin (whom he'd never fought with before) and feels like both he and Kaoru need a bit more reassurance than normal. (Hearing that the person you've shared your entire existence with wants to abruptly cut himself out of your life is not the easiest thing in the world.)

[Limited Powers]:
Hopefully, his desire to annoy people out of boredom will be limited by the fact that he's a freaking pirate. (It doesn't matter if he's not actually a pirate; he can pretend, and that's what matters.)

Or it'll just give him more to complain about when things get quiet.

[Other Important Facts]:
Seriously, don't mess with Kaoru or he'll cry.

♦ Thread: well uh I completely missed the LJ -> Dreamwidth movement so all of my threads are like, five years old now. Here is one of my favourites, where the characters came under an Event-effect ('rose tea: for the love of all that is good and shoujo, will the drinkers of this tea stop sparkling so melodramatically?') which essentially turned them into parodies of their Club personas. This one is a pretty good example of "getting carried away and belatedly realizing he's gotten them into trouble", and here is a [community profile] dear_mun post that is currently in operation.

Okay, so I get that I've been 'magically' transported to some weird shōnen plot apparently obsessed with pirates - which, I'll admit, isn't the worst premise I've ever heard; it would be cool if it weren't so cliche - but does everything have to be so gaudy? Whoever designed this place had a terrible sense of aesthetics and should feel ashamed. There's not an ounce of originality in this place.

And what the heck is up with the way everyone's talking around here?! It's bad enough that you're all dressed like something out of a bad cartoon; you don't have talk like it, too. You all sound like you belong in a low-budget theatre production scripted by monkeys.

Anyway, I don't have time for this. Someone point me to the exit so I can go home.

♦ Post the Second Because I Couldn't Decide and Also Hikaru Really Isn't The Type to Intentionally Broadcast His Actual Feelings Across a Public Network:
[audio]
Hey--watch it! I'm sitting here! What's wrong with you people!? Can't a guy get some time to himself? Geeze! It's not even like any of you have been any help to me. 'Davy Jones' this, 'Davy Jones' that. Who cares about some weird pirate religion?! People are being kidnapped here, and you all think that's normal?

Tch. Don't even know why I bother... it's not like any of them have anything helpful to say.

How the heck am I supposed to work this thing anyway? That lady said I can use it to communicate, but I don't see how. It's just a book. A stupid book! Does she want me to send bottled messages or something? What's the point in that? How are you even supposed to know if it goes where you want it to?! It's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Who the heck thought that was a good idea for global communication?

...

Dammit... Why now, of all times? Kaoru...
